Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is headed to the major leagues, the Toronto Blue Jays announced Wednesday.
He’s the top-ranked prospect in baseball. He will play his first game against the Oakland Athletics on Friday in Toronto.
The 20-year-old right-handed hitting third baseman posted a .325 average with two home runs and eight RBIs in 40 at-bats in the minors this season.
He’s been one of the most productive hitters in the minor leagues since beginning his professional career in 2016. He’s a native of the Dominican Republic and the son of the Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero.
Guerrero fills a big need for the Blue Jays, who’s third basemen have hit a combined .215 this season.
