Prep player who should be in No. 1 pick discussion

Termarr Johnson had an extremely productive summer to push himself to the top of the 2022 MLB draft prep class. Elijah Green also is right there as a potential No. 1 pick in the 2022 draft due to his advanced skills across the board.

But one player who is not discussed enough, at least in public circles, is Wesleyan (Ga.) High outfielder Andruw “Druw” Jones, the son of the former MLB star.

Some scouts believe Jones is the best prep player in this year’s draft class. Jones is very projectable and has the skillset to be a five-tool player in pro ball.

Jones is an above-average defensive center fielder, possessing smooth footwork and impressive athleticism. He also has above-average arm strength and accuracy. He will stick in center field long-term.

Jones will add additional strength to his already long and lean 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame. He is a right-handed hitter who has a simple approach at the plate. He consistently barrels up pitches and drives the ball into the gaps.

Jones’ father was a five-tool player during the prime of his career with the Atlanta Braves. Scouts factor in those bloodlines when evaluating a player, and it’s easy to see some resemblance in the younger Jones, who plays the game with ease and a strong knowledge.

Jones has an exciting toolset and is already in the mix to go in the first 10 picks of the 2022 draft. But don’t be surprised if Jones is in consideration for the No. 1 overall pick come draft day.
