Nick Dumesnil develops into a top player at Cal Baptist

Nick Dumesnil has flourished at California Baptist and is not shy about expressing his love for the program. The California native saw limited action as a freshman, logging just 50 plate appearances, but he broke out as an everyday starter last season. His success continued into the summer, where he thrived in the prestigious Cape Cod League, earning national recognition.

Scouts are enamored with Dumesnil’s rare five-tool potential, viewing him as a likely first-round pick in the upcoming MLB draft. If selected that high, he would make history as California Baptist’s highest-ever draft pick, surpassing Tyson Miller, a right-handed pitcher taken in the fourth round in 2016.

Dumesnil is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound center fielder known for his strong hitting ability and above-average speed. He uses a short and simple swing to drive the ball into the gaps and for power consistently. He doesn’t strike out, showing a strong feel for the strike zone and quality pitch recognition.

Defensively, Dumesnil’s speed and athleticism make him a standout in center field, allowing him to cover plenty of ground. While his arm strength is average, he has shown an ability to refine his defensive skills, particularly his reads and first-step quickness. Scouts believe he can stick in center field at the professional level due to his well-rounded skill set.
