Georgia’s Robbie Burnett named SEC Player of the Week

The SEC kicked off its conference schedule last weekend, and it was nothing short of entertaining. From Tennessee protecting its undefeated run to six ranked teams losing their series, last weekend was just a preview of the unpredictable season ahead.

However, one player in particular stood out last weekend: Georgia’s Robbie Burnett.

Burnett received this week’s SEC Player of the Week honor after batting .667, with nine RBIs, eight runs, two home runs and two doubles in No. 4 Georgia’s series win over No. 23 Kentucky.

The senior went 4 for 4 on Sunday and reached base in all six of his plate appearances against a relentless Kentucky pitching staff, who entered the series as the nation’s second-ranked pitching staff with a 1.89 ERA. Burnett also saw a career-high day in RBIs on Sunday, notching five.

This marks Georgia’s second straight week with the honor, as Burnett’s roommate Ryland Zaborowski shared the award with Arkansas’ Wehiwa Aloy last week.

Zaborowski and Burnett currently hold the top two spots in the SEC in slugging percentage and OPS while both standing in the top 10 in batting average, on-base percentage, RBIs and home runs.

Burnett, a UNC Asheville transfer, helped contribute to the offensive surge that the Bulldogs had last weekend. Georgia scored 36 runs between its three games, with 17 of those coming on Sunday.

He has reached base safely in all 23 games this season, and he currently leads the SEC while also ranking second nationally in on-base percentage. Burnett has also proven that he is aggressive once he’s on base too, leading Georgia and the SEC in stolen bases with 11.

On the year, Burnett is batting .414 with 36 RBIs and 11 home runs.

The Bulldogs won 12-6 on Friday and 17-10 on Sunday while falling 10-7 to the Wildcats in between due to struggles on the mound.

Georgia travels to No. 13 Florida this weekend for its first SEC series on the road.
