Georgia set for 5-game week against Georgia State, FGCU

No. 6 Georgia baseball continues its early-season schedule with a five-game week, beginning with a road matchup against Georgia State before hosting Florida Gulf Coast for a four-game series at Foley Field.

The Bulldogs are off to a strong start, improving to 8-1 after a 17-3 victory over UIC on Sunday to complete a four-game sweep. 

Graduate student Ryland Zaborowski leads the offense with a .455 batting average, 10 hits and 15 RBIs. He has a .864 slugging percentage.

Senior Slate Alford follows closely with a .423 average, 11 hits and 11 RBIs, while senior Henry Hunter is hitting .400 with 10 hits and six RBIs. 

Senior Robbie Burnett has contributed nine hits, 11 RBIs, and three home runs while batting .346.

On the mound, Georgia’s pitching staff has recorded a 3.12 ERA. Junior Leighton Finley has been dominant, posting a 1.00 ERA with a 1-0 record, 12 strikeouts and nine innings pitched. 

Junior Alton Davis II has also been effective, holding a 1.35 ERA with a 1-0 record and 11 strikeouts over 6.2 innings.

Georgia State 

The Panthers are off to their best start since 2011, winning six of their first seven games. 

The Panthers are led offensively by Kaleb Freeman, who is batting .500 with 11 hits, 11 RBIs and a 1.091 slugging percentage.

Michael Maginnis is hitting .345 with 11 hits, 11 RBIs and a .517 slugging percentage, while Jesse Donohoe has a .333 average with nine hits, seven RBIs and a .667 slugging percentage.

On the mound, Georgia State has relied on strong performances from multiple arms. Nick Holbrook holds a 2.45 ERA with a 2-0 record over 3 2/3 innings pitched. 

Quin McManmon has posted a 2.00 ERA with a 1-0 record over nine innings, while Ross Norman has been a key contributor with a 2.53 ERA, 1-0 record and 10 2/3 innings pitched.

The Bulldogs will travel to Atlanta to face Georgia State at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday. 

Florida Gulf Coast 

The Eagles enter the week at 4-3, rebounding from a three-game skid with three straight wins. 

FGCU will play its first true road game of the season when it travels to Georgia for a four-game series.

Javier Gorostola leads the team offensively with a .414 batting average, 12 hits and 12 RBIs. 

Sluggers Robert Moya and Harrison Povey have each recorded two home runs this season.

Gorostola finished the team’s most recent weekend series 7 for 13 with six RBIs, two runs scored and two doubles.

On the mound, Justin Henschel turned in an impressive performance, throwing five scoreless innings with three strikeouts in his last start.

Georgia will host a four-game series against FGCU at Foley Field, beginning at 3 p.m. ET Friday, continuing with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Saturday and concluding at 1 p.m. Sunday.
